Hednesford Town have rejected West Brom’s approach to take Lewis Archer on trial, according to the Express & Star.

The newspaper has claimed via their website that Northern Premier League club want a fee for the 20-year-old centre-forward, however it is unlikely that the Baggies will table an offer.

Archer has been in good form lately for the non-league Midlands club, with Albion showing their interest in him after he scored a brilliant solo goal against Whitby Town earlier this month.

Good move for West Brom?

Archer would not cost much for the Baggies, and it certainly seems worth their time in trying to unearth a non-league gem.

Hednesford have a track record of producing good players despite their lowly position in the football pyramid.

Ashley Williams, Cohen Bramall, Chey Dunkley and Curtis Tilt have all been developed at Keys Park in Staffordshire and if Archer was to head to The Hawthorns then his transfer value could massively increase.

The pacey attacker probably wouldn’t be in the Baggies’ first-team for a while, but he still would be a decent addition.

Likely to happen?

The Express & Star has reported that West Brom are unlikely to table a cash offer for Archer, so it looks as though this deal will not happen unless the 20-year-old tries to push for a move.

When a big local club like the Baggies come calling, it is bound to be hard for a player like Archer not to get his head turned by it, especially when he is playing so well for Hednesford.

But for now the Pitmen are having none of it and it does not seem likely.
