Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has torn into Celtic attacker Scott Sinclair and accused the 29-year-old of hiding in the 2-1 defeat at Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Sinclair has scored just one goal and supplied three assists in 12 appearances across all competitions, with the former Manchester City winger usually boasting much better figures than that during his spell at Celtic Park.

He went completely missing at Rugby Park over the weekend, and Boyd believes it is because the former England youth international was hiding behind defenders.

“Sinclair looked a pale shadow of the player he was. It was actually pretty sad to see,” Boyd told TalkSport on Monday, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“No confidence, didn’t want to take anybody on.

“When you’re confident you look to get on the ball. He was the opposite yesterday. He was trying to hide behind defenders because he didn’t want it.

“You need to look at Celtic’s bench yesterday. Tom Rogic, Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Odsonne Edouard. Guys that started the Old Firm game and all of a sudden they find themselves out.”

OPINION

Boyd claims that it is sad to see Sinclair playing so badly, but there is little doubt that the former Rangers star is loving Celtic’s poor form at the moment. Sinclair is by no means the Hoops’ worst player this season. He has only started six matches across all competitions because Rodgers was so unimpressed by his form in the second half of last term, so to point the finger of blame at him would be pretty harsh. Every single one of the Bhoys’ squad and Rodgers himself are not doing the best they can do at the moment, you can also look higher up the hierarchy at the board and blame them for the way the last two transfer windows have gone. It really is all a great big mess right now but Sinclair’s form is expected. He has only ever had two good seasons in his whole career, one with Swansea in the Championship and the other in his debut year at Parkhead.
