West Brom have been in touch with Nottingham Forest’s sporting director Luke Dowling over filling the vacant technical director role at The Hawthorns, according to the Express and Star.

The newspaper claim that the Baggies have made contact over the potential move for the senior Forest figure, just months after having arrived at the City ground, joining their Championship rivals back in February of this year.

It is stated that the former Reading and Tottenham player has emerged as one of the targets for chief executive Mark Jenkins, with his focus solely on finding a new individual to fill the role following the end of the summer transfer window.

Opinion

Dowling has not had long to prove his worth with Forest just yet, but perhaps the way that his current club have changed tack in the transfer window following their takeover back at the start of the summer has left him feeling a bit redundant, and the Baggies are sniffing an opportunity of circumstance. The City Ground outfit saw some relatively big names through the door over the summer, including a handful from Portuguese heavyweights Benfica and Porto, with the capture of Joao Carvalho a major coup and a statement to the rest of the division. It is clear that Dowling’s influence has been nullified by external factors, but at West Brom he could well be valued for his talents once again, working with Darren Moore to source quality for both the first team and the youth sides. Having someone in before the January window would give them the time to really iron out any teething issues and ensure they are prepared to seal the necessary deals in the winter market.
