West Brom striker Dwight Gayle has heaped praise on team mate Jake Livermore after both players performed superbly in the Baggies’ 2-1 win over Stoke on Saturday.

Gayle scored both goals, the first a wonderful strike, but was keen to give credit to Livermore, who was signed from Hull for around £10million in 2017.

“We spoke about it, he obviously knows I like to run in behind so as long as I keep getting service like that I’ll try and get my fair share,” he told the Birmingham Mail.

“Jake was fantastic today. I mentioned it to him after the game, I’m going to demand that from him every game now. Hopefully he continues to do that.”

OPINION

It was a terrific afternoon’s work for the Baggies on Sunday, as they completed a fine victory over a fellow newly-relegated team. Darren Moore’s side looked the better throughout, and Gayle’s class was on show from the first minute to the last. Livermore, as Gayle says, was also excellent. The midfielder is such a key player for the club, and he showcased why at the Hawthorns with a trademark display. The England international showed off his enviable range of passing, as well as his ability to get stuck in. It really was an all action performance from the former Tottenham Hotspur man. Gayle’s first goal was the obvious highlight, an outstanding moment of individual skill and composure, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of other players. Gayle recognises that, and it certainly seems as if he has bonded quickly with his Albion team mates following his summer move from Newcastle. Onwards and upwards, then, for the Baggies.
