Swansea City plan to sit down for contract talks with homegrown starlet Joe Rodon immediately, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon, football correspondent at The Sun, reported on his personal Twitter account on Sunday that the Swans are keen to work out a new deal for the 20-year-old soon, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season.

It is also said that Premier League champions Manchester City are long-term admirers of the 6ft 4in Welsh colossus [SoccerBase].

OPINION

The only surprising thing about this situation is that Swansea have not sat down and agreed a new contract with Rodon already. The young centre-back has been a regular under Graham Potter this season and has long been tipped as a future star for the club. This begs the question why he has been allowed to run down his contract, with just this season left on his deal. Losing him at the end of the season on a free transfer would be a disaster for Swansea, who would be losing a potential star for nothing, and one that they have developed since a young age. It would also be unforgivable, with there being no reason why this situation wasn’t sorted out sooner. That being said, there is no suggestion at the moment that Rodon wants to leave, and his regular game time so far this season should hopefully convince him that the Liberty Stadium is the best place for him right now.
