Adam Forshaw is set to join Pablo Hernandez and Gaetano Berardi in being available to start for Leeds United in their Championship clash against Millwall next week, according to Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent told the newspaper’s Inside Elland Road podcast (26:40) that key first team duo Hernandez and Berardi are set to shake off injuries for the trip to the New Den in nine days’ time.

Hernandez missed the goalless draw against Middlesbrough last Friday with a muscle injury while Berardi was forced off with two minutes remaining and left Elland Road on crutches.

Forshaw has not yet played for Leeds this season after suffering ankle ligament damage in pre-season.

“We’ve touched on Hernandez’s injury and it looks very likely he’ll be back in training this week and good for Millwall,” Hay explained. “It does sound as well that Berardi will be okay for the Millwall game as well. We’re not entirely clear about the nature of his injury but it doesn’t sound major and the club are optimistic about that. He should be fine.

“I don’t think Adam Forshaw will be far away for Millwall. He will be very close.”

OPINION

With the Championship fixtures coming thick and fast after the international break, Marcelo Bielsa will be keen for all the key first teamers to be in prime condition. Hernandez and Berardi have had outstanding starts to the campaign, with the Spaniard named the Championship player of the month for August after taking brilliantly to a new right-wing role. Berardi has also seized the opportunity of a new centre-back position under Bielsa and has made such a decent fist of it that he was preferred to Pontus Jansson for last Friday’s goalless draw against Middlesbrough. The senior duo are certain starters at Millwall if, as expected, they get the injury all-clear. Leeds fans will be delighted with what is a massive triple boost from Hay, as Forshaw is also closing in on a comeback. The January signing from Middlesbrough was Leeds’ outstanding player in the second half of last season, and will push Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich in the coming weeks for the central midfield starting positions.
