Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has delivered a rallying call on Twitter in response to the side’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.

Adam Reach gave Wednesday the lead at Hillsborough with an incredible long range volley on the stroke of half-time, but the Whites managed to level with an equally impressive strike from Mateusz Klich in the 54th minute.

Leeds almost grabbed a late winner when Samu Saiz was denied, but Jansson still heaped praise on his teammates after the result via his personal Twitter account, saying that the team showed what they were made of.

He said: Games like the one today you have to love to play. Fantastic atmosphere and a demonstration of what we are made of. I’m so proud of my team and all the steps we have already taken this year and this is only the beginning of a long journey.”

OPINION

Leeds were extremely unlucky not to have secured all three points on Friday, but Jansson was spot on in the way he praised his team following the result. They were by far the better team on the day, but they can take comfort in the fact that they still sit at the summit of the Championship despite only taking one point. That is not to be-little their opponents in anyway – but Leeds should have taken the chances when they were presented with them. However, you cannot fault their performance on Friday – if they carry on playing like that, then there is no doubt that Marcelo Bielsa will guide them to Premier League promotion this season. The Whites must learn how to wrap up games though – as this could prove to be costly in the final run of matches. Jansson is right though – him and his teammates did show what they were made of on Friday, and by the looks of things, it is serving them rather well.
