Pontus Jansson will attract a “big fee” if he produces more performances like his Leeds United masterclass against Preston North End on Tuesday night, according to Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent was hugely impressed by the display from the Sweden international as United secured a 3-0 Championship win to maintain top spot.

Jansson played the full 90 minutes of the Elland Road clash as Marcelo Bielsa named an unchanged side.

OPINION

Watching Jansson have the entire Preston front line for breakfast last night and it was remarkable that he was not even in the United team a few weeks ago. Indeed, the United fans’ favourite started only one of the club’s first six league matches of the campaign as Bielsa stuck with Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi, the converted full-back who had made such a good fist of his new role. But Berardi’s injury has opened the door to Jansson’s return, and the giant Swede has seized his opportunity with excellent performances in the last two matches. Saturday’s draw at Millwall was a backs-against-the-wall display, while Leeds were in total control against Preston and Jansson was utterly dominant. There were reports in the summer that Russian side Krasnodar bid nearly £10million for Jansson in the summer window. His price tag will be double that if he reproduces Tuesday’s performance regularly.
