Nottingham Forest have held talks with free agent Karim Ansarifard as manager Aitor Karanka looks to boost his squad with more additions, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report that Forest would however struggle to secure a work permit for the 28-year-old Iran international, who played at the World Cup over the summer.

Ansarifard was released by Olympiakos last week after just one-and-a-half seasons, scoring 22 goals in 48 games for the Athens-based side.

Good move for Forest?

Yes.

The 6ft striker would bring experience to the Forest ranks after a poor start to the season in which Karanka’s men have managed just seven points from their first six games.

Ansarifard has an impressive 64 caps for Iran and played in all three of their matches in Russia this summer, scoring once.

He is a capable goalscorer, and to get him on a free would be a shrewd move.

Likely to happen?

Unfortunately not.

As stated in this report, Ansarifard is likely to encounter issues with his work permit, and that means a Forest swoop has some major issues to overcome.

This is not to rule the move out, but work permit problems are not easily fixed, and the club will have to work hard if they want to make it happen.
