Stan Collymore has revealed on Twitter that he is not convinced by his former club Aston Villa this season in the Championship.

Villa currently sit in 7th place in the second tier, just below the play-off places – but Collymore has admitted that he has not been swayed by them this season, as well as saying that he has been not been convinced by his former club Nottingham Forest either.

He claimed via his Twitter account on Thursday night that both clubs are capable of playing some “exceptional football”, but that this is always followed by “midweek disappointment.”

OPINION

It is hard not to agree with Collymore here – neither club have been that convincing so far, despite bringing some players this summer. Forest did register a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday night, but as Collymore, they are not convincing in terms of consistency. They have been rather underwhelming in their campaign this season, especially as they have registered mainly draws so far. They are one of the clubs that have brought in a high number of players this summer, but they have not taken the league by storm in the way they would have expected. As for Aston Villa, they have not had the best time of it – their hammering at the hands of Sheffield United only reinforces that. They have been far from consistent, and if they keep this up, they do not stand a chance of promotion this season. Steve Bruce has obtained some quality players, but they are not performing well on a regular basis. Fingers crossed for the fans that their fortunes turn around soon – or they will miss out on a coveted spot in the Premier League once again.
