Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has heaped praise on midfielder Mateusz Klich for his performance against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.

The 6′ midfielder [Source: Transfermarkt] continued his impressive start to the season by levelling the scoring after half time in his team’s 1-1 draw with Wednesday at Hillsborough.

And Bielsa was delighted with his charge’s efforts, if not the rest of his players’: “I’m glad that the fans celebrated Klich’s goal because he deserves the celebration from the fans,” he told the Daily Star.

“When you evaluate the performance of the team and you look at the number of chances, you can’t say that we’re satisfied with the result. I am truly disappointed.”

OPINION

You can see why Bielsa was so delighted with Klich’s performance against Wednesday on Friday night. The midfielder has been excellent this season, excelling in a way that he previously had not in a Leeds shirt. Clearly Bielsa’s appointment has been good for the 28-year-old, and he’s starting to show why he was brought to Elland Road in the first place. Overall Bielsa was disappointed with the team’s efforts against Jos Luhukay’s side, particularly the wastefulness that the Whites demonstrated at Hillsborough, but it says much against Klich’s display that he was singled out for praise from this most demanding of managers. Bielsa’s praise will be another big boost to the confidence of the Poland international, and his manager will be hopeful that he can continue to keep up the fine form that he has displayed so far this season, and did so again last night in a terrific goal-scoring effort.
