Brendan Rodgers could ring eight changes to his Celtic side when they take on St Johnstone in the quarter finals of the BetFred Cup on Wednesday night.

The Hoops travel to McDiarmid Park off the back of a surprise 2-1 defeat at Kilmarnock on Sunday, meaning that Rodgers is likely to make a major change to his side.

Craig Gordon, Mikael Lustig, Jack Hendry, Kieran Tierney, Youssouf Mulumbu, Ryan Christie, Scott Sinclair and Leigh Griffiths could all find themselves axed after the loss at Rugby Park with Rodgers rotating in his fringe players and those who did not start against Killie.

Scott Bain is expected to start in goals behind a back-four of Cristian Gamboa, Kristoffer Ajer, Dedryck Boyata and Emilio Izaguirre.

Celtic captain Scott Brown could hang on to his spot in Rodgers’ starting line-up but with Oliver Ntcham returning from suspension to replace Mulumbu, who may struggle to play two games in the space of a few days.

Mikey Johnstone is likely to start on the right wing with Lewis Morgan, who has passed himself fit to play, on the left to make his full debut for the Hoops.

Tom Rogic could return in the central attacking midfield role to help provide a cutting edge against St Johnstone’s defence, with Odsonne Edouard up front ahead of Griffiths as Rodgers is likely to rotate his strikers.
