Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has two games to save his career in the midlands, according to a reliable journalist.

The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon claims that the Villa board are almost at breaking point and have lined up Brentford manager Dean Smith as his replacement.

The 47-year-old has taken Brentford up to sixth in the Championship and he is currently the name being mentioned as Bruce’s replacement.

OPINION

The relationship between the Aston Villa fans and their manager is at breaking point at the moment, and it seems almost inevitable that he’s going to be replaced. He’s now on borrowed time as well, with a time scale seemingly set for him. If the Villa board are giving him until the international break, it means he’s going to need to get good results from two games – at home to Preston and away at Millwall. Preston are anchored to the bottom of the league at the moment, although they were unlucky to lose 2-3 to West Brom on Saturday. If Bruce doesn’t come away with all three points in that game you’d have to feel that his time at Villa Park will be over. After that it’s a tough trip to the Den and no one likes playing there at the best of times. Smith would be a decent name to take over, although his appointment isn’t going to blow Villa fans away.
