Aston Villa attacker Andre Green is set to be ruled out of action for a month after undergoing surgery while on loan at Portsmouth, according to The News.

The newspaper claimed via their website that Green, 20, underwent minor surgery to remove a cyst from his right knee on Monday, but will not be able to play again until mid-October.

The England Under-20 international joined Portsmouth on loan in the summer transfer window and has since made just total appearances for the south coast club, however it will be quite a wait before he is able to add to that tally.

OPINION

What a terrible time to be ruled out of action for a month. Green has only made a couple of outings for Portsmouth and now has to wait another four weeks before he can get any more game-time under his belt. In that time, Kenny Jackett could find that his replacement for Green is a better option and that could see his loan spell at Fratton Park turn into a bit of a nightmare. Green needs to play regularly in order to return to Villa Park at the end of the season and be ready to fight for a spot in the first team. At the moment, he is nowhere near due to the likes of Yannick Bolasie being signed on loan last month. However when players like the Everton ace sees his loan deal expire, Green has to stake his claim to replace him in the senior squad. Can he do that by hardly playing at Portsmouth? Not a chance. Hopefully this is the last of his injury woes for the season.
