Jamies Redknapp has hailed Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves as a player capable of taking the Premier League by storm in the upcoming season.

Writing in the Daily Mail, the big-name Sky pundit and former England international explained why he believes the Portugese, 21, is something special but might be at Molineux beyond this campaign.

“This player is central to everything Wolves do. He was their outstanding player in their promotion campaign and I’m confident he will make the step up to the Premier League,” wrote Redknapp in the Mail.

“Neves likes to dictate games from midfield but he may find it tricky at first. He will not be afforded the same space he was given in the Championship.

“He was a showman last season – scoring six times from outside of the box – and I am sure we will see more of those magic moments. Impress this season and Neves could be set for a big move.”

OPINION

Neves was beaten by Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon to the Championship player of the year gong last season, but he left a huge impression on the division after a series of outstanding performances from central midfielder. The six brilliant goals stood out, as did his maturity and level-headedness among the maelstrom, but what makes Neves so special is his ability find space and time when all around him are losing their heads. His arrival last summer for what was a Championship record fee of about £16million put him under the spotlight, but he looks born for the big games and big occasions. Little wonder there was widespread interest from the Premier League elite before he committed to a new Wolves contract this summer, and if he continues to develop and improve, expect some serious bids in January and next summer, when the ambitious Midlanders will be vulnerable to losing their prize asset.
