Wolves manager Nuno Esperito Santo and his transfer team at Molineux have been one of the busier sides in the summer window as they prepare for their return to the Premier League – but it would seem it has not gone all their own way.

The midlands club, who join England’s elite as the winners of the Championship last season, have made a mix of new signings as well as permanent deals for loanees, welcoming the likes of Rui Patricio and Joao Moutinho to join ranks with Willy Boly and Diogo Jota.

One man that seemed certain to join Wolves before an injury blow in pre-season was Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore, but now that reported move is up in air – and Nuno’s side could be about to be dealt a hammer blow in their pursuit.

The Northern Echo claim on their website that in order to ward off their former league rivals, as well as rid the winger of an £18million release clause, Boro have tabled a contract offer to the 22-year-old – something which would effectively end Wolves’ chances of securing his signature.

His current injury, which is said to keep him out of action for the start of the season, plus the £18million price tag makes a move a gamble, but considering his displays with the north east outfit, he could be a serious talent in the Wolves squad.

With that contract offer on the table, Traore’s price will rocket if he puts pen to paper, and as a result Wolves must roll the dice and take a risk on his capture – or face the disappointment of watching him dazzle when they knew they could seal a deal this summer.
