Wolves are reportedly in the hunt to sign free agent Miguel Veloso – and the Portugal international would be a class signing if Nuno Espirito Santo can lure him to Molineux over the coming weeks.

According to news outlet TeamTalk, Wolves are joined by Everton in hunting down the available 32-year-old, who is without a club after leaving Genoa earlier this summer.

It is understood that both Nuno and Toffees boss Marco Silva know Veloso quite well, and they are now set to do battle over signing him up to continue adding to their squads even though the summer transfer window is already shut.

Veloso has been a top midfield operater during his career.

The former Sporting CP and Dynamo Kiev enforcer is very much a similar type of player to Wolves’ Ruben Neves. He sits deep and loves to have the ball at his feet and dictate the tempo of games.

However what he can also do that Neves can’t is play in defence and if Nuno can use his relationship with Veloso to coax him to Molineux, then he will be adding a lot of class and experience to a squad that could do with a boost after two poor results in their first Premier League fixtures.

Veloso will be able to move the ball out of the back and up the pitch with ease, linking with Neves to ensure a smooth transition of play from defence to attack.

It would also help to have a back-up option to Neves because he is by far Wolves’ best player and no one currently at Molineux will be able to fill the void if he was to get injured or suspended.

As Veloso is a free agent there is no hurry to sign him but Everton’s interest must surely be a concern to Nuno in his bid to get his man.

And a player of his quality is bound to attract more attention from across Europe, so getting this deal wrapped up sooner rather than later should be a priority for the West Midlands club.
