After dominating the Championship last season and nabbing a point against Everton on the opening weekend, Wolves came back down to earth with a bump on Saturday with a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Leicester City.

An own goal from Matt Doherty, who later went off with an injury, and a first Premier League goal for James Maddison, ensured the Foxes, who were sent down to 10 men with Jamie Vardy’s dismissal, secured the three points at home and left Nuno and his men seeking their first win this season.

The result was particularly disappointing considering Wolves came within inches of netting, being denied by the woodwork, on the occasions, leaving the visitors ruing their missed chances and wondering what might have been after a particularly bright start.

Wolves actually dominated Leicester in the first 15 to 20 minutes of the game and had they taken full advantage, who knows how the game would have turned out.

However, the impressive opening is just one of two reasons why the Molineux faithful should be excited about what is to come in coming weeks – the other being winger Adama Traore.

The multi-million pound signing came on for his first appearance in a Wolves shirt, having sealed a switch from Middlesbrough, and there were no signs that his dislocated shoulder, which delayed his debut, was causing him any problems as he terrorised the Leicester defence.

His pace was electrifying and you could tell that with some time spent on getting on the same page as his team mates, he is going to be a creative force to be reckoned with.

If he had been around in the opening period of the game, when Wolves looked as though they were Premier League quality, then we might be talking about a different result altogether.

This is not the result Wolves fans wanted, but there is no reason for heads to drop – the future looks exciting.
