West Ham midfielder Edimilson Feranades is due to jet out to Italy tomorrow (Sunday) and undergo a medical with Fiorentina, according to Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The reporter claimed on his personal website that Fernandes, 22, will join the Serie A club on a temporary basis, with Fiorentina paying an initial £900,000 loan fee.

It is understood that the deal can be made permanent next summer and will cost La Viola £8million.

Good move for West Ham?

If Fernandes does well in Italy and tempts Fiorentina to spend £8million on him, then it is definitely a good piece of business by the Hammers.

The Switzerland international’s spell at the London Stadium has been ravaged by injuries and even though he arrived at the club from Sion with a lot of potential, he hasn’t really shown that he is capable of tapping into that.

Moving to Italy is probably a better move for the 22-year-old and Serie A will suit him a bit better.

West Ham fans will hope that he can turn his career around, but it’s just not going to be happening for him in London.

Likely to happen?

Fernandes is not going to be anywhere near Manuel Pellegrini’s first team this season so it makes sense to offload him before the end of the month.

With his medical scheduled for Sunday, there are bound to be some concerns as his spell at West Ham has seen him play just 48 appearances in all competitions over two years – and that is mainly down to injuries.
