Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck is the next most likely Everton signing, according to global transfer site Football Whispers

The 27-year-old, who is reportedly on £70k-a-week at Arsenal, is an England international with an impressive record for his country – 16 goals in 40 games – and he played a cameo role in the first game of two against Belgium in the World Cup finals this summer.

Everton’s pre-season hasn’t been good under Marco Silva, with losses against Rennes, Blackburn and Port, and a draw against Bury.

That could lead to manager Marco Silva seeking out extra reinforcements before the season starts next weekend.

And, according to Football Whispers, Welbeck is the man he’s most likely to turn to.

Football Whispers grades every possible transfer out of five and Welbeck is currently the most likely next signing for Silva, with a rating of 3.2, ahead of Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson.

OPINION

This might well divide opinion as Welbeck is a polarising player. He’s got a great scoring record for his country but he hasn’t been as prolific for Arsenal, with 27 goals in 112 games. However, a lot of these games were from the bench and Welbeck has never been trusted with a solid run in the side. He offers a lot more than just goals too, although his finishing does let him down. We think he’d be a good buy for Everton, despite the fact that linking up with another Arsenal outcast Theo Walcott could leave them being tagged as the Arsenal rejects. Everton have been linked with Welbeck and he would probably be available for around £20million or even less, given that he’s only got one year left on his contract with Arsenal. Question: Where else are you going to find a current England international striker available for that price? Marco Silva should ensure this one gets over the line as it will undoubtedly strengthen a squad that’s in need of a lift.
