Rangers summer signing Umar Sadiq has been axed to the club’s Under-20s side as they take on Falkirk in the Irn Bru Cup on Tuesday night.

Sadiq, 21, is on loan at Ibrox from Roma and doesn’t look as though he will be involved in the Europa League trip to Maribor on Thursday night as the Gers’ Youth Academy confirmed on their official Twitter account that he is starting for the reserves against the Scottish Championship side on Tuesday.

Sadiq has managed to make just two appearances off the bench since arriving in Glasgow, amounting to just 15 minutes’ worth of action.

He featured for 13 minutes in the 2-0 win against St Mirren on Sunday.

OPINION

Is this a worrying sign about Sadiq? Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has pulled off some fantastic signings for the Light Blues so far but no one has really seen what Sadiq has been able to offer following his loan move from Roma. The striker was tipped as a powerful, pacey centre-forward, but his limited game-time has not really given him the chance to display that. There is a good chance that he is well short of fitness and is playing in the Under-20s side against Falkirk in a bid to get match fit. However it does look as though he will not be involved against Maribor on Thursday as he is starting at Forthbank. Rangers fans will hope that he is able to have a brilliant game and is able to get back into the first team this weekend, because at the moment, the signs are not looking great at all.
