Tottenham are in the hunt to sign West Brom centre-forward Jay Rodriguez, according to the Burnley Express.

The newspaper claims on their website that Burnley, West Ham, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace are also interested in the 29-year-old, with the Baggies valuing him at over £18million.

Rodriguez has already played under Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino once in his career when the two were together at Southampton.

The one-time England international left the Saints to join West Brom last summer for around £12million.

Good move for Tottenham?

Spurs are yet to make a signing this summer, so any signing would probably be a good one in the eyes of their fans as long as it’s not a repeat of panic buying Moussa Sissoko.

Rodriguez is a good player and would certainly thrive at Tottenham given the number of chances that would be created for him when he is drafted in to play in Harry Kane’s absence.

He is also an upgrade on Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente, who have both been poor for Spurs since signing as back-up to Kane.

Rodriguez was pretty much West Brom’s second option at centre-forward last season behind Salomon Rondon, but he still managed to finish as the club’s top scorer by netting 11 goals in all competitions.

It would cost a lot of money for someone who is now essentially a Championship player, but he would certainly be a solid addition.

Likely to happen?

With Janssen and Llorente still on the books, it’s hard to see Pochettino going after another striker unless he was to cash in on one or both of them.

Rodriguez would more than likely be second in the pecking order to play up front, so hinging hopes of them pair leaving before the end of August might not be the wisest of moves by penny-pinching Daniel Levy.

Other teams interested in Rodriguez would also be more likely to give him first team football and if anything, better money than Spurs.
