Tottenham have missed out on the chance to sign talented young keeper Gavin Bazunu, according to the Irish Sun, and some fans are not happy.

It was looking like Bazunu would join after Spurs made a bid of £179,000 (€200,000) to secure his services once his schooling had finished in Ireland.

However, Man City have doubled the offer and it looks like Bazunu will now head to the Etihad in June 2019.

Tottenham fans reacted to the news with weary sighs, with one saying that it sums everything up at the moment, after Tottenham’s quiet summer.

Another fan said that Daniel Levy “strikes again” but one asked whether he was saying that Spurs should have got into a bidding war for a 16-year-old against the riches of Man City.

Here are the best reactions from disgruntled Tottenham fans:

OPINION

Man City think highly enough of Bazunu to have snapped him up on a four-year-deal, starting next June. They were determined to land him and managed to blow all their rivals, including Tottenham and Norwich, out of the water with a bid of £359,000. It’s a lot of money for a 16-year-old but he has shown that he has the talent to be a serious force in the future. A lot could happen between now and next June, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll make it at Man City, where the competition for places is fierce. However, he’ll get the very best education and under Pep Guardiola, he’ll have a manager with very specific requirements for a keeper. Bazunu will need to be as good with his feet as he is with his hands if he wants to impress at the Etihad, but we wish him all the luck. As for Tottenham fans, there’s a reality that a 16-year-old has a certain value and this time Levy didn’t see that as high enough to match the Man City offer. That’s the reality of having an “astute” businessman at the helm of your club. You’ll get some very canny deals, but you’ll miss out on others that you really think the club should have completed.
