Southampton have tabled a late transfer window bid worth £20million for Celta Vigo midfielder Stanislav Lobotka, according to the Times.

The newspaper claims on their website that the La Liga club have rejected the Saints’ offer while Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing up the Slovakia international.

The London Evening Standard has previously reported that the 5ft 6in (transfermarkt) defensive midfielder has a release clause in his deal at Celta Vigo worth £31million.

Good move for Southampton?

Lobotka would be a quality signing for the Saints if Mark Hughes manages to pull off a last-gasp deal for the midfield enforcer.

He was very impressive in his debut season at Celta Vigo last time out, appearing 41 times across all competitions while playing in every single La Liga fixture.

The former Ajax player did a decent job against the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla and could be a very neat addition to the squad at St Mary’s.

However it does appear as though Hughes will have to bid much more than £20million to get the Slovakian midfielder.

Likely to happen?

With the transfer deadline closing in, there is no inkling that Southampton are going to table an improved offer for Lobotka.

It could be a quiet day on the south coast if anything, so it’s hard to see this deal coming through especially with interest from PSG.

The Ligue 1 champions also have until the end of August to sign the Celta star, so that is probably a more likely move as Spurs do not seem as though they are able to sign anyone too.
