Southampton can buy midfield target Joe Aribo for £1million if they make an offer to Charlton by next Thursday, according to a reliable journalist.
Jack Pitt-Brooke, from the Independent, made the claim on his personal twitter account on Friday lunchtime.
He said that the club had offered Aribo a new contract at the start of the summer and then withdrew it and offered half as much.
Now, despite caretaker manager Lee Bowyer insisting that the player can’t be sold, owner Roland Duchâtelet will accept a bid of £1million for their midfield star.
If anyone offers £1m for Aribo by next Thursday he'll be sold. Derby and Saints are interested. Bowyer insisted to me that the can't sell Aribo. But if a proper bid comes in then Duchatelet will accept it.

Good move for Southampton?
The 22-year-old has never played higher than League One but he impressed last season and that’s got him on the radar of both Derby and Southampton. He only made 26 league appearances but scored five goals and registered two assists, as well as adding another one apiece in his five EFL trophy games. It would be a big step up for him but Southampton are impressed and he could be a steal at £1million. His former manager Karl Robinson said he could be the next Dele Alli and that would surely make it worth a gamble? Robinson brought Alli into the MK Dons team when he was manager there so he knows what he’s talking about.

Likely to happen?
It will happen if Southampton rate the player highly enough. It will take a bid of £1million for him to be sold against his manager’s wishes, and the player would surely fancy a move to either the Championship or the Premier League with Southampton.
