Steven Gerrard’s next summer signing could come along fairly fast, after a report claimed a loan deal had been agreed for Bournemouth enforcer Jack Simpson.

The Daily Mail claimed that the 21-year-old has a deal agreed to move to Rangers, but Bournemouth were waiting on the fitness of first-team star Nathan Ake.

He picked up an injury in a pre-season game but according to injury specialist Ben Dinnery, he is already back in contention for the first Premier League game of the season against Cardiff after overcoming his toe injury.

The 21-year-old defender has already made four senior appearances for Rangers and has impressed his south coast side in pre-season. They’re keen for him to get valuable first-team experience at a big club and Rangers fit the bill perfectly. With Ake back in the game, this deal could get rubber-stamped shortly, even over the weekend if Ake makes it into the starting XI or back on the bench for the Saturday game. And that would be another huge boost for Gerrard and his Rangers side who have made a great start to the season, despite dropping points at Aberdeen. While all the noises coming out of Celtic are doom and gloom, things couldn’t be any more different at Ibrox. And the signing of Jack Simpson will make that even better.
