If anyone thought Steven Gerrard would be slowing down the summer business after the first Premiership game of the season, they’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Sky Sports (live transfer blog 13.07) reported earlier today that Croatian left-back Borna Barisic was undergoing a medical at Ibrox ahead of an imminent deal.

That came just minutes after ultra-reliable Rangers blog Four Lads Had A Dream tweeted to say that he was at the Rangers training ground.

Sky claimed the deal was for £2.2million whereas Four Lads have said it is actually £1.8million, and if true that would represent a massive bargain for Gerrard and Rangers.

However, their second bit of news from them might not go down so well.

They claim that with the arrival of Barisic, left-back Declan John could be allowed to leave on loan, with Championship side Swansea interested.

This would seem like a very odd move for Rangers to make – John was one of their better performers in the latter few months of last season, after a great run in the Wales team.

It would be a straight case of one-in and one-out if he went out on loan, but it would seem that that any benefit they get from Barisic would be instantly negated, with just Lee Wallace as recognised cover in the left-back position.

Most Rangers fans would prefer a Barisic/John combo that Barisic/Wallace, surely?

Four Lads are solid when it comes to Rangers and if they say that he will be allowed to go on loan, it would seem that a decision has been made at Ibrox.

We can’t help but think it’s the wrong one in this instance, no-matter how good Barisic turns out to be.
