A vast number of Rangers fans have been left over the moon with the display of defender Borna Barisic after he made his debut in the clash with St Mirren on Sunday.

The Light Blues welcomed the Buddies to Ibrox for their first home league game of the season, having drawn with Aberdeen away last weekend, and made the ideal start thanks to Alfredo Morelos’ opener just before the 15 minute mark, with centre back Connor Goldson netting a second 10 minutes later after a dangerous cross from the former Osijek man.

Ross McCrorie’s red card was not enough to stop the Rangers faithful from being left over the moon with their new man’s display, with the majority insisting he deserves to keep his place in the starting XI following his performance.

Opinion

Well after a second red card in as many weekends, some might have expected the Gers faithful to be fuming, and while they are likely angry at the fact McCrorie was sent off, it was Barisic’s display which caught the eye. Confident in defence, he brought a real balance to the back line, while also offering a potent threat down the left hand flank in a way that James Tavernier does from his right back role for the Light Blues. The transfer business that Steven Gerrard has carried out this summer has been really impressive and Barisic looks like another brilliant signing to further improve the squad at Ibrox, and those battling with him for a role in the first team now face a serious fight to usurp him from the starting XI. Yes, rotation is going to see others come in and the new man rested, with Jon Flanagan having been given a break after his midweek exploits, but after this performance, Barisic looks as though he should be first choice.
