31-year-old Youssouf Mulumbu has passed his medical at Celtic and will be announced as the club’s fifth summer signing later today, according to the Scottish Sun.

They claim that he passed the medical yesterday with “flying colours” before watching his new side beat Suduva 3-0 to move through to the Europa League group stage.

He will sign a two-year contract and is expected to be joined by Filip Benkovic, who will join on loan from Premier League Leicester.

OPINION

Of the two deadline day signings Celtic are expected to make, this is the least exciting. Midfielder Mulumbu comes with a vast amount of Premier League experience, but he was last at Kilmarnock and he’s not going to get the fans excited. Benkovic is the one they really want to get over the line today and unusually they won’t want any more deadline-day deals after that. That’s because if anyone else does arrive it’s likely to be a replacement for star striker Moussa Dembele, who is still hoping he can seal a late summer move to French club Lyon. It’s a tough one as Dembele has been agitating for a move on social media and he obviously is unhappy and wants to go. Do Celtic want a player like that? They can’t keep him and not play him as his value will go down. However, despite all that, we can’t see him going at this stage. Celtic would need to find a replacement and where are they going to find one this late in the day? Tammy Abraham is reportedly availableĀ on loan until January and he could be a short-term solution, but would he come to Scotland?
