You would be hard pressed to find a Celtic fan who would welcome Dedryck Boyata back in the senior setup after his apparent downing of tools over the past week – but they may just have to watch him return as Brendan Rodgers reveals his plans.

There has been much controversy surrounding the Belgian enforcer after it was suggested by the manager he had refused to play in the Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens – a game the Hoops lost – with the former Liverpool boss rubbishing claims from the player himself he was injured.

The ongoing issue saw Boyata exiled from the first team, with many fans and pundits determining that the 6’1″ (source: Transfermarkt) powerhouse had no future at Parkhead and that he would be shipped out before the end of the summer transfer window.

However, it appears as though Rodgers is willing to welcome him back – and in doing so, he is making a massive shambles of the situation at Celtic.

Sky Sports news state on their official Twitter account that Rodgers has said that the centre back is “likely” to make his way back into training and could even feature in the Europa League qualifier against FK Suduva – a seriously shock u-turn from the Hoops.

Quite frankly, it is embarrassing that the Bhoys are bending to Boyata and had they had any pride, would have kept him far and away from the first team.

How are the rest of the squad expected to welcome back a man who deserted them in their hour of need? With a handshake and a hug?

They should be fuming and give him no chance at coming back in – he is evidently a disruptive presence and needs binning.

Bringing him back makes a mockery of the whole situation and until there is either a public apology or explanation, Boyata should have no chance to wear the famous hoops.

This really is a stunning turn of events, but one Rodgers has wildly misjudged, and you could well hear the travelling Hoops fans booing their own man in Lithuania this week.
