Celtic are within hours of re-signing Honduras international Emilio Izaguirre, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.

The 32-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Saudi Arabian club Al-Feiha, the team he signed for after leaving the Hoops at the end of the 2016/17 season.

Celtic have limited depth to their left-back options with just Kieran Tierney and Calvin Miller the only players who can play there, but Rodgers has now been quoted by BBC Sport as saying a move for Izaguirre will be “completed in the next 24 hours”.

OPINION

Izaguirre had been a very loyal servant for Celtic before he left just over a year ago and welcoming him back to the club is a solid piece of business. He played for the Bhoys for seven years, made 252 appearances across all competitions and won 10 major trophies in that time. Rodgers definitely needs some solid back-up to Tierney because Miller has not looked all too convincing in the games he has played and could probably do with a loan spell away from Parkhead in order to continue his development. With Izaguirre on board, the Hoops will not have to worry so much about playing Tierney two times a week like Rodgers was having to in the earlier parts of last season. If he picked up an injury then, it would have been a disaster. But now with Izaguirre coming in soon, one of Celtic’s major problem areas is going to be solved by the 97-times Honduras international.
