Rangers are plotting a potential last-gasp swoop for Bolton defender Mark Beevers ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper claims on their website that Steven Gerrard remains in the hunt to sign a left-sided centre-back and has Beevers, 28, on his radar after bids for Millwall’s Jake Cooper and Bournemouth’s Jake Simpson were rejected.

However it is understood that Bolton manager Phil Parkinson would be reluctant to cash in on the 6ft 3 (transfermarkt) colossus, who has played in all five of the club’s Championship fixtures this season.

Good move for Rangers?

Beevers is a very good defender and would be a class late addition to Gerrard’s squad before the transfer window shuts.

The 28-year-old has a lot of experience in English football, with 240 appearances in the Championship and 136 in League One.

He would certainly be a good back-up option for the likes of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson is they were to pick up injuries or suspensions and could also give Gerrard the option to play with three at the back if he wishes to mix things up and allow Borna Barisic and James Tavernier to push forward as wing-backs.

It would make a lot of sense to sign Beevers, but it could also be costly due how important he is at Bolton.

Likely to happen?

Rangers have spent a lot of money this summer and have completely revamped the squad, so it is hard to see them splashing a considerable amount of cash on another defender.

Parkinson is reportedly reluctant to lose Beevers so it could cost a lot to pry him away from the Macron Stadium.

And with time running out before deadline day, the Gers do not have a lot of time to be able to put together the funds necessary to sign the former Sheffield Wednesday ace.
