Rangers threw away their first three points of the Premiership campaign under Steven Gerrard, after a late equalising goal from Aberdeen, and fans were not impressed with the display of Josh Windass.

Rangers had to do it the hard way after Alfredo Morelos was sent off in the 12th minute for a petulant kick off the ball.

It was harsh but it gave Rangers everything to do after a really bright start. However, they set about the task well, and their new manager will take a lot of pride from their display with just 10 men.

Windass won a penalty after being tugged back in the box and James Tavernier stroked the ball home to give Rangers the lead, but the attacker’s contribution wasn’t enough to save him from a mauling from fans.

One fan said he was a “total passenger” and not a team player, while another said he couldn’t be sold quickly enough.

Rangers held on until injury time when what looked like an equalising goal for Aberdeen broke Rangers’ hearts after some resolute defending.

OPINION

This seems a bit unfair to us. Windass made the goal and started the second-half brightly enough, but attackers were never going to get the chance to shine after Morelos was sent off so early on. Most of the criticism seems to stem from historical grievances, although Windass showed one of his worst habits when he had the perfect chance to find a teammate on a break deep in the Aberdeen half, but chose to go it alone and slammed a shot straight into a defender. Windass isn’t the most consistent player but he contributed enough and wasn’t the worst player on the pitch for Rangers today. That honour would have to go to Jamie Murphy. the final result was a but unfair on Rangers too after they were the better side, even with 10 men. Aberdeen didn’t deserve to get anything but ended up sharing the spoils.
