Hibbitt predicts great Wolves season ahead

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers legend Kenny Hibbitt has been left raving over the club’s owners and is predicting an exciting campaign for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

With Chinese investors Fosun International at the helm, the midlands outfit have gone from strength to strength, strolling their way to the Championship title last season and with it securing promotion to the top flight.

The summer has seen manager Nuno Esperito Santo make a number of exciting signings, including Portuguese internationals Rui Patricio and Joao Moutinho, as he prepares to battle with the country’s elite, and Hibbitt is predicting that they can go toe-to-toe with the division during the 2018/19 season.

As relayed on the personal Twitter account off BBC West Midlands’ John Bray, he said: “We’ve got some great owners now. We’ve got some fantastic people running the club, it’s run very, very professionally.

“We are going to be competing at the top level. It’s a very exciting time ahead of us. Wolves fans are going to be in for a treat.

“I think we can compete without a shadow of a doubt.”

Opinion

Hibbitt is absolutely right to be leaving such a rave review on those at the very top of Molineux, for without their support and backing the club would likely be floundering around in the middle of the Championship. It is a notoriously hard division to break out from – just ask the likes of Leeds United, Aston Villa and Hull City – but the club have spent a significant amount of money on clever signings, and given the manager some great talents to work with week in, week out. That has not stopped in the build up to the Premier League season and they have been one of the most active sides in terms of recruitment, making some smart signings who should be able to compete in the top flight. Can they do battle with the very top of the table, or will they be fighting with mid-table sides to avoid relegation? They should be happy to stay in the division on their return, but expect them to stun a big boy or two, for the quality they have on paper is impressive.
