Wolves are plotting to break their transfer record with the £18 million capture of Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore over the coming, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Spanish forward has been a long-term target for the Premier League new boys as the club remain in talks with Middlesbrough over a deal for the 22-year-old.

Wolves have reportedly seen a £12m bid already rejected for the Spain U21 international – an offer which was well below the £18m release clause required to sign him.

Despite having been ruled out with a shoulder injury, Wolves are said to be expected to trigger Adama’s clause in the next few days, breaking their £15.8 million transfer record for Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves.

Good move for Wolves?

After a disappointing spell at Aston Villa, Traore has managed to kickstart his career at Middlesbrough and has been impressive in the Championship.

Wolves should pursue in signing the forward who is still in the early years of his career and has the potential to flourish in the Premier League.

Traore is the in-form Championship attacker and Wolves should consider signing the Spaniard after scoring five goals and assisting ten.

Likely to happen?

A number of clubs have declared interest in the Spain Under-21 international, including European giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Wolves will have to battle it out with other sides if they are to sign Traore and have little time left in the transfer window so they need to make a quick offer.

Middlesbrough are doing everything they can to keep the Spaniard and is due to miss the start if the season due to a dislocated shoulder.
