The transfer window might have slammed shut for all the Premier League clubs on Thursday but for the English Football League and overseas sides, there is still a chance to seal some deals before the end of August – something West Ham might look to take advantage of.
The Hammers were among the busiest in England’s top flight, bringing in a handful of exciting new arrivals and continuing their business up until the final day of the market, snapping up Carlos Sanchez on a permanent deal.
However, all these new faces through the door at the London Stadium means that Pellegrini is now having to manage a hugely bloated squad, and the Chilean boss has acknowledged the difficulty he is going to face as the new Premier League season kicks off this weekend.
He was quoted by Sky Sports as saying: Maybe it is one of the most difficult things for a manager because all of them want to play. If there is a better player, then there is more problems.
“For me as a manager it is easier to have more good players, and some of them must wait, but to have that option to change.”
With that being the case, it is almost a certainty that the Hammers’ transfer business is far from dead this summer, and that they will be looking at offloading a couple of fringe figures either on loan or permanently to lower league sides as well as those overseas.
It is a difficult balancing act for Pellegrini to manage but he knows he has too many players at his disposal, and while keeping a handful in reserve is sensible, the Irons are beyond that in terms of squad size.
