Midfielder Edimilson Fernandes has taken to Instagram to thank the West Ham board for allowing him the opportunity to join Italian side Fiorentina on loan.

The three-cap Swiss international secured a temporary swoop to the Serie A outfit in a move which was confirmed on the east London club’s official website, with the 22-year-old having made 48 appearances for the Hammers since joining from FC Sion.

Turning to social media to express his thoughts, Fernandes revealed his excitement at the opportunity, and thanked the West Ham chiefs for giving him the chance to move, having seemingly fallen down the pecking order at the London Stadium.

He said on his personal Instagram: “I would like to say thank you to the board of West-Ham to allow me to take this opportunity in my career and let me grow as a player. I wish the whole West-Ham family the very best for the upcoming season.”

Opinion

It is not often you see a player actively taking the time to thank the board for green lighting their exit, but there is a first time for everything. Fernandes obviously did not have a part to play in the Irons’ campaign this season and with so many bodies among the squad, Manuel Pellegrini must have been plotting to ship a couple – including the Swiss star – out the door both on temporary and permanent deals. Fiorentina are not a smal lclub and so they obviously feel as though the Hammers man has the ability and potential to play a big part in their season – but will he ever return to east London to live up to expectation? It remains to be seen, but fans will imagine that a good spell in Italy will spell the end of his time at the London Stadium, especially with so many new talents coming in over the summer transfer window.
