Premier League sides West Ham and Chelsea are both in the hunt for Dagenham and Redbridge goalkeeping starlet Tarek Najia, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper report that both top-flight sides are running the rule over the 17-year-old after he made his debut in a friendly against AFC Hornchurch on Tuesday.

The Mirror claim that scouts from both sides were in attendance to watch the 6ft 3in colossus as Dagenham lost 4-2 to their local rivals.

Good move for West Ham?

It is hard to say at this point in time.

Najia is obviously seen as a big prospect, but it is still so early in his career and making the jump from non-league to the Premier League is a huge leap.

That being said, if the Hammers have spotted something special in the 17-year-old, then they must act quickly before Chelsea or another top-flight side snaps him up.

His 6ft 3in frame suggests that Najia would be more suited to make that jump when compared to other 17-year-old’s, and should he come good then he could be the long-term solution to the Hammers’ goalkeeper problems in recent seasons.

Likely to happen?

It looks like it is still early days in the Hammers’ scouting of Najia, so it may be a bit of time yet before a move is made.

The fact that two Premier League sides are scouting him suggests that Najia will end up making the leap to professional football, but when that will happen is hard to say.
