Paris St Germain manager Thomas Tuchel has been left raving over the talents of Tottenham defender Danny Rose but refused to comment on a potential transfer swoop when probed by reporters.

The French giants, who will be battling alongside Spurs in the Champions League once again this season, have been linked with a move for the 5’7″ (source: Transfermarkt) England international this summer after he appeared to fall out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino in north London, Ben Davies the preferred left back so far.

However, while admitting he was a brilliant talent when he came up against him as manager of Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League, he gave no comment on a potential move, quoted by journalist Jonathan Johnson as saying: “I will not comment on transfer rumours. I will simply say that I came up against Tottenham Hotspur 3 years ago & it took me 3 days to work out how best to combat him.”

Opinion

A big compliment from one of Europe’s top coaches for Rose, but he need game time rather than plaudits right now. He seems to have been shunned as an option at Spurs, with Davies and youngster Kyle Walker-Peters the men who seem likely to keep filling in on the left hand side of defence. Will his impressive efforts of three years ago do enough to convince Tuchel to make a move for the English flyer, or is it simply him complimenting Rose without committing to any meaningful statement? Either way, he has an admirer in the German coach and if he is really desperate to leave Spurs, then PSG do seem a good option who can offer some, perhaps not regular, game time as well as European football. As for Spurs, if they are not going to use him, they need to get him off their books and it seems Daniel Levy could well be calling Tuchel to offer him his services after his comments.
