Tottenham defensive duo Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier are not suffering from any injuries and are simply focusing on regaining their fitness after missing the clash against Newcastle United, according to Football.London.

The football news website claim that the full backs, who were both on duty for England at the World Cup this summer, were allowed to continue their recovery after their international exploits, meaning they were absent from the season opener at St James’ Park, which Spurs won 2-1.

The news will come as a boost to fans, who may have been concerned at their notable absence, especially Trippier, who established himself as the first choice for Mauricio Pochettino ahead of Serge Aurier last season.

Opinion

This is good news for Tottenham, who will no doubt be hoping that Trippier can continue his excellent form from both last season and the World Cup with England. He was not only a marauding wing back for club and country, providing dangerous crosses from the flank, but he also remained defensively resolute. Considering the amount of times Newcastle threatened down their left, getting in behind Aurier after his forays forward, it is something which Pochettino will be happy to welcome back. As for Rose, his future continues to look bleak in north London, despite the English transfer window having slammed shut, and there could well be a foreign move on the cards for the experienced left back. Still, he is there if the manager needs to call on him, and the extra work in training means that he should be ready to go if he does get a shock outing.
