Danny Rose was re-introduced to the Tottenham starting line-up against Man United at Old Trafford tonight, but fans quickly wished he’d been left on the bench.

He looked rusty and put in a lazy backpass to Hugo Lloris in the first-half that Romelu Lukaku intercepted. The United striker rounded Lloris and should have finished into the empty net, but dragged his shot just wide.

It was a big let off for Tottenham who probably had the best of the play in the first 45 minutes but they made their superiority pay in the second-half.

Two quick-fire goals, one from Harry Kane with a brilliant header and one from Lucas Moura put the tie almost beyond United.

Another from Moura killed it off and gave Tottenham their biggest win at Old Trafford since 1946.

It meant that Rose’s clanger in the first-half was forgotten, although not by the fans on social media.

Here are the best reactions to Rose’s performance tonight:

OPINION

It’s no surprise that Rose was rusty tonight. It’s his first appearance for Spurs of the season after his World Cup exploits, and he only made 10 appearances in the league all of last season. How he must wish he could go back and take that infamous interview to the Sun back. It’s not been a great summer for him World Cup aside. He’s been hawked around but the club have come up short of buyers, despite his price tag being reportedly slashed. However, Pochettino has given him a route back into the Spurs team, although he’ll need to be consistently better than he was tonight. As for Pochettino, with Serge Aurier, Kieran Trippier, Ben Davies and Rose, he’s got the best problem in selection for full backs in the entire Premier League. All four could walk into pretty much any Premier League side. As for Tottenham tonight, they looked brilliant and Moura was as good as a new signing. Maybe they didn’t need to buy anyone this summer after all.
