A selection of Tottenham fans have turned to social media to express their utter delight at seeing Heung-min Son qualify for the final of the Asian Games with South Korea.

The Spurs star is on international duty with his country as one of the overage players for the international competition, with the understanding that a gold medal will exempt him from taking part in mandatory military service.

With South Korea beating Vietnam 3-1 in the semi finals, they face a test against either Japan or the United Arab Emirates in the final, and Spurs fans are delighted on Twitter at seeing the six foot (source: Transfermarkt) winger one step away from gold.

Opinion

Nerves will be jangling among the Spurs supporters now, knowing that Son’s future could be made or broken by his next 90 minutes of football. The Lilywhite faithful might have been supporting South Korea more than they have their own side at the start of the current season, and that goes to show just how important the versatile attacker is to the club. Mauricio Pochettino will be thankful he has not missed Son’s talents too much on the wings, with the likes of Lucas Moura and Dele Alli stepping up to the plate, and it could be that the missing man actually faces a tough battle to force his way back into the first team set up when he does return. Spurs, and the supporters, will be hoping that he is accompanied by a gold medal, for if it is not, he could well be facing a significant period away not just from the club, but football as a whole.
