A section of fans have taken to Twitter to express their bemusement at a Tottenham transfer update by Sky Sports broadcaster Jim White.
The respected journalist reported on Thursday evening that Spurs are in the market for two new signings before the window closes next week but warned the club are ready to dispense with Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele.
It’s understood @SpursOfficial in the market for two players before window closes – club to consider any offers for Alderweireld, Rose and Dembele should they materialise.

There is confusion among Spurs and supporters of other clubs as to why they are willing to offload proven Premier League performers, with many scratching their heads at the possible departure of Dembele.

Get rid of three first teasers and acquire two squad players no doubt, that’ll work for us!

Why would they sell Dembele? Is this the last year of his contract? I get alderwiereld and Rose but Dembele is unreal

Exchange Rose for Shaw poch will be able get the best out of him

I’d offer @ManUtd a straight swap Toby for Martial. I’d also swap Rose for Shaw, think Poch would get the best from him as he did back in their saints days. Sad to see Dembele go but if the price is right, the time is right. Bring in Lo Celso or Kondogbia.

COMMENTARY:
There is certainly puzzlement among White’s legion of Twitter followers about Tottenham’s plans for the final week of the window. No surprise, there. Spurs appear badly hamstrung by the spiralling costs of their new stadium and chairman Daniel Levy and his board are putting the club’s long-term health ahead of their short-term prospects. Supporters live for today and tomorrow, not two years’ time or some indefinite point in the future. Big promises about Tottenham challenging for the big trophies in the long distant future mean little. Fans want success here and now, and certainly those who follow the club don’t think that can best be achieved by selling three titans of the Mauricio Pochettino era. Spurs would be strengthening their rivals by offloading Rose, Dembele and Alderweireld, and weakening themselves to boot. That is as clear as day.
