Newcastle United midfielder Henri Saivet has confirmed that he has completed a loan move to Turkish Super Lig side Bursaspor on Instagram.

The Senegal international midfielder was reported to have completed the move last week, but a hold-up has meant official confirmation of the move is yet to be given.

Saivet has however confirmed the move himself in an Instagram post in which he expresses excitement about the new challenge ahead and sent a message to the Toon Army thanking them for their support.

Saivet was previously reported by the Chronicle to be earning £35,000-a-week at St. James’ Park.

OPINION

Saivet has merely confirmed something we know has been coming for a week or so. The Senegal international was pictured arriving in Turkey and completing his medical late last week, and it is not exactly clear what has been holding up the deal. The Bursaspor chairman claimed that the club were trying to arrange a welcome signing ceremony for Saivet and one other player, so the midfielder looks to have jumped the gun a bit with his post. From Newcastle’s perspective they will be happy to offload Saivet’s reported £35,000-a-week wages, although it is likely that the Magpies are subsidising that pay packet in some way during his spell in Bursa. If so, this will be the third subsidised loan spell for Saivet in just two years at Newcastle. Saivet has only made eight first-team appearances for Newcastle in those two seasons at the club, and his loss will therefore not be felt too keenly on Tyneside.
