Bursaspor are very close to signing Newcastle United’s Henri Saivet on loan, according to Turkish newspaper Olay.

The Turkish news outlet claimed on their website that the Senegalese midfielder, who endured a loan spell with Turkish club Sivasspor last season, have switched their attention to the 27-year-old after talks with Istanbul Basaksehir F.K fell through.

Whilst at Sivasspor, Saivet worked with manager Samet Aybaba and with the Turkish coach now in charge at Bursaspor, he is keen to work with him again.

The player is contracted at Newcastle until 2021 but has played just five matches for the Premier League side, featuring on loan for Saint Etienne two seasons ago.

Good move for Newcastle?

Henri Saivet has had a difficult experience on Tyneside, with very little first-team action resulting in loan spells away from the Premier League.

Newcastle fans will remember him for his equalising goal against West Ham in an epic 3-2 victory at the London Stadium despite committing an error for West Ham’s opener.

Saivet is at the bottom of the pecking order in terms of midfield choices and could do with more experience to develop his game and add to his 22 Senegal caps.

Likely to happen?

With Rafael Benitez signing central midfielder Ki Sung-yeung, Saivet’s time could well and truly up after struggling to make a solid impact at St James’ Park to warrant a consistent spot in the first-team.

Saivet is in desperate need of regular game time to save his faltering career and another loan move would be understandable for a player who is not seen to be part of the club’s plans.

Saivet has experience of playing in Turkey after featuring for Sivasspor and should be keen for a return to end his Tyneside nightmare.
