Newcastle United opened their 2018/19 Premier League season with a 2-1 loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, and fans have taken to Twitter to react to the display of new signing Salomon Rondon.
Jan Vertonghen opened the scoring for Spurs before Joselu hit back quickly for the Magpies, but a header from Dele Alli condemned Rafa Benitez’s men to another opening day defeat.
New signing Rondon, who is on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion, came on in the second-half and impressed with an all-action cameo which saw him hit the bar with a deflected effort.

I am happy from what I saw from Rondon & Muto.
Rondon was strong and can bully defences.
Muto was quick and two footed.#NUFC #NEWTOT— Bucko (@Cheshire_Mag) August 11, 2018
Could easily have had a point from that. Muto and Rondon looked a threat when they came on.

OPINION
Despite the disappointing loss against Tottenham there are still reasons to be positive for Newcastle fans, and these supporters certainly see it that way. The Magpies were unlucky to not draw level through Mo Diame early in the second half, with the midfielder smashing an effort against the post, and Rondon’s shot was no different. The Venezuela international showed good energy during his cameo, and put himself about well. The Tottenham defence seemed to struggle against his size and power, and that bodes well for the rest of the season. The other debutant Yoshinori Muto also looked bright in his short time on the pitch, and the duo could quite easily form a lethal partnership this season. That is another point that has been picked up by these fans, who seem equally enthused by the Japan international’s display. All in all this was a good performance for the Magpies to build upon ahead of their next game against Cardiff in a week’s time.
