A selection of Newcastle United fans have been left fuming on social media after it was reported that a proposed move for West Brom striker Salomon Rondon has stalled.
Sky Sports have claimed on their official Twitter account that negotiations between the Magpies and the Baggies have come to a halt, while the broadcaster’s report Keith Downey has claimed that the reason behind the issue is that the clubs cannot agree on terms of a deal, which includes Dwight Gayle heading in the opposite direction.

The Rondon/Gayle swap-deal has stalled for now as the two clubs struggle to reach an agreement. WBA keen to keep their existing squad as aren’t prepared to pay Gayle similar terms to what he gets at Newcastle.

Opinion
The news has gone down like a lead balloon on Tyneside and it should come as no surprise after the frustrations endured during the transfer window already. If this is how Newcastle fans are feeling, spare a thought for Rafael Benitez, who is expected to work under these conditions and actually build a competitive squad for the upcoming campaign. Quite frankly, the Magpies are floundering before the season has even begun and if things do not change quickly over the next seven days, then the Toon Army may well be right about a relegation battle looming large. Benitez is in the fight of his life – it just so happens to be with his boss.
