Fenerbahce will make a serious effort to sign Man United defender Marcos Rojo if they progress through their Champions League qualifier tonight, according to a reliable journalist.

Dean Jones, from the Bleacher Report, made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Tuesday morning.

He added that if they crashed out of the Champions League it would end their interest in the 28-year-old centre-back.

This comes after it was reported that United were in talks with Fenerbahce over a loan move.

Good move for United?

Despite playing three games at this summer’s World Cup, and scoring a goal for Argentina, Rojo’s time at Old Trafford seems to be up after he wasn’t even named in the squad for the opening game in the Premier League against Leicester. Jose Mourinho might have moaned about the state of his squad but he still doesn’t have a place for the 28-year-old. Rojo still has three years left on his United contract after signing an extension in March this year, but it looks like he’s going to be on his way this August. He’s behind Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Eric Lindelof in the United defence and they could do with getting his salary off their books.

Likely to happen?

Well, if Jones’ information is true, it’s on a knife-edge. Fenerbahce lost the first leg of their Champions League qualifier against Benfica 1-0 and must now ensure they don’t let in an away goal in the home leg or they’ll need to score twice. The tie is completely in the balance, although the Turkish side will be confident in front of their fervent away fans that they’ll be able to get the job done. If they do, and the talks continue, we could see the move happening. Rojo doesn’t appear to have a future at Man United and if Fenerbahce get serious, they should get a deal over the line.
