Everton have told Premier League and north west rivals Manchester United that they are ready to sign one of three defenders that they might want to get rid of before the end of the transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.

The news website claim that the Toffees have been plotting a raid to take Argentine international Marcos Rojo from Old Trafford but with plenty of competition for his capture, have informed Jose Mourinho’s side that they are also happy to seal moves for Victor Lindelof on loan or Chris Smalling on a permanent deal.

It is said that United are almost certain to green light the exit of at least one of the powerful trio, and Everton are open to a move for any of them to bolster their own defence.

Opinion

Everton could really do with an increase in quality at the back and any of the Manchester United defenders would help give Marco Silva exactly what he is looking for before the summer window slams shut. The fact they have told the Red Devils they are open to signing any of those seemingly bound for the exit door at Old Trafford should give them an advantage over their rivals in the hunt for a signing, although that could change if a bidding war is ignited for any of them. Of the three, Rojo would likely be Silva’s preferred option considering his comfort on the left hand side of the defence, as well as his international experience, although all of the named options have playing time for their country. The decisive difference could well be the wages being asked for by the defenders, with Everton unlikely to be able to offer the same sort of money as they are on with United at the moment.
