After putting in a man of the match performance against Chelsea in the 2-0 Community Shield win on Sunday, Phil Foden must be kept at the club and play a big role.

The 18-year-old was outstanding for City as they ran out 2-0 winners against their title rivals at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

The wonderkid set up the club’s opening goal, scored eventually by Sergio Aguero, as he went on a silky run through the centre of midfield before beautifully teeing up the Argentine to make it 1-0.

The midfielder made only five Premier League appearances last season but he must be given more in this campaign by Pep Guardiola as the youngster is good enough to make a real impact in this team.

As reported by Simon O’Rourke on his official Twitter account in June, Leeds United were heavily linked with a loan move for Foden, with the Yorkshire club reportedly given the option to sign him for the season.

However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, Pep Guardiola clarified that Foden would not be going anywhere and would play a part in the first team this season.

Normally, young players need loan moves in order to get regular first-team action and to develop their talents. But with special talents like Foden, he’s good enough to stay with The Etihad Stadium outfit and play a big part for the current Premier League champions, a loan move would not be the right move.

The Mancunian has a terrific left-foot, a great turn of pace and the ability to drift round opposition defenders like they’re not even there. He’s also mature enough to know what positions he’s most effective in and will roam around the pitch looking for the ball in dangerous spaces, which really does make him a unique talent and one that needs to play more than five times in this upcoming league season.
